Holocaust
Reading, as you all know, is my favorite thing to do. For some reason, I developed an interest in the Holocaust era. It all started when I read the Diary of Anne Frank. I was so sad when I was in Amsterdam that the house she hid in and the museum in it were closed (we were there on a Sunday). I so wanted to see it. I have read the diary several times and every time it brings tears to my eyes. Such a sad period of history. I thoroughly enjoyed the traveling exhibit that came to Sioux Falls about Anne Frank and could have spent many hours looking everything over. But my family wanted to go...... I found a couple of other really good books to read about survivors of the Holocaust. Sala's Gift was an amazing story about a woman who survived the concentration camps. The Girl in the Green Sweater was an amazing book about a family that survived the Holocaust by staying down in the sewer system under Lvov, Poland, for 14 months. What a story. There is a Chaplain that works at the VA that is also interested in the Holocaust story. We share books and interesting conversations about our common interest. He is a wonderful person and feels just like I do that this is a terrible piece of history and we DO NOT want to see it repeated. Know any good Holocaust books? Let me know!
