I have a friend, Sharon Lee, whose husband has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Last Tuesday, March 30, my friend Deb Ritcherts and I brought supper over to their house.
My friendship with Sharon is quite long and varied. We went to school together, knew each other then, but didn't really hang out together. Sharon's first husband was also a classmate of ours and while they were married, they lived right around the corner of the block that my Mom & Dad lived on. My Mom's block of ladies has always been close and over 30 years ago, they started going out once a month for lunch on a Saturday and still do. I got involved and so did Sharon and we remain a part of the neighborhood lunch group even though we have both moved out of the neighborhood. I got married, Sharon divorced and then remarried. It is a tight knit group and we have weathered many of life's ups and downs.
Before Christmas, Sharon had been concered that Joel wasn't feeling well, but would not go to the doctor. He got very ill over Christmas and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was given a prognosis of a couple years, but kept getting worse and worse. Last week he quit his chemo and moved into Hospice Care. Sharon doesn't think it will be long - he was told about 2 months now. Deb and I brought over a nice supper for them and hopefully they enjoyed it.
Life is so short, we need to enjoy our family and friends daily, because you just never know when they might suddenly be gone. Love you all!
