Newton Hills Camping

Bernie and I took off after work on Thursday, August 27, to go camping at Newton Hills. Dan and Mary Hughes were already there and settled in. Right after we got set up, we headed over to their spot and enjoyed the evening campfire. It felt so good to relax and visit. Friday was spent doing more of the same. Dan worked on a stained glass project. The Green Bay Packer plaque is under dark grout but was beautiful when finished. We had a little bit of rain, but it didn't take long for the sun to come out. Friday night was another awesome campfire. Saturday brought Steph to the campground to visit. She told us all about her great Friday night visiting with Wes and Bryan. We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon and waited for Josh, Wes and Bryan to join us. After they arrived, we enjoyed steaks and hot dogs over the grill. Steph & Bryan did banana boats over the campfire. Wes and Bryan seemed to enjoy learning how we rough it (not!) and all too soon Josh was uncomfortable and ready to go home. His ALC surgery went well, but it is difficult for him to get really comfortable in a lawn chair! So all too soon they headed back to home. Steph spent the night with us and Sunday we went bike riding and relaxing. Late afternoon, we went to Vermillion to help Becca move in. We had the van full of her things that she packed before we left home. We got her all moved in and then ate supper at Little Italy. After a stop at Walmart, Bernie, Steph and I headed back to the campground and then Steph headed home. Bernie and I spent one last night camping. It was quite chilly for the night and we got the furnace going. Monday was relaxing with bike riding and walking and then packing up to head home. The furnace quit working and we had to take the camper in for repair. We will need that furnace working when we head to Yankton in a couple of weeks. This cool summer has had some chilly nights!
